Five grooming swaps men should make in 2015
Think you’re clued up when it comes to grooming? Well, it turns out that you could be missing a trick. According to new research, 64% of men are using the wrong products for their skin and hair types, and as many as 58% don’t know how to make the most of their appearance. With summer now just around the corner, we’ve identified the areas where you might be going wrong – make these five grooming swaps today, and the chances are, you won’t want to look back.
1. Swap beard for clean-shaven
Some say the beard is over, others disagree. Either way, one thing’s for sure – a close shave is the way to go this summer. Not only will it keep you cool, but if you’re something of a sun worshipper then it will allow your face to tan evenly. Furthermore, facial hair can harbour sweat, providing a suitable environment for nasty bugs to thrive if not washed regularly. Save yourself the hassle – research has shown clean-shaven men to have more sex, more fun, and a greater level of respect at work. Need we say more?
2. Face soap for cleanser
Face soap dries out the skin, stripping it of the natural oils it needs and leaves it feeling dry and tight. Plump for a cleanser or face wash instead to keep your complexion happy, and be sure to follow up with a good moisturiser. The Bluebeards Revenge Cooling Moisturiser is a great option for parched skin, and will soothe and calm any red areas if you’ve been a typical Brit and burnt yourself to a lobster-like crisp at the first sign of sunshine. Always remember your SPF, lads!
3. Bedhead for slick and suave
Manly goes groomed for 2015, and we’ll continue to see the effortless, bedhead styles that have been so popular in recent years rejected in favour of the slicker, high-shine looks that came into favour in late 2014. It may not seem like the obvious choice for summer, but the classic ‘slick back’ look will keep you feeling cool as well as looking it. To style, all you’ll need is some wet-look pomade and a comb. Done.
4. Electric trimmer for wet shaving
Get the closest possible shave by swapping your electric trimmer for a decent double-edged razor. In case you hadn’t heard, wet shaving is also a great form of exfoliation, which has been proven to help keep you looking younger for longer. Not only that, but you’ll be able to achieve a much smoother finish. It’s a no-brainer.
5. Two-in-one shampoos and conditioners for separates
Two-in-ones are great time-savers, but the silicones they contain can accumulate in the hair, leaving it limp and lacklustre. Choose separates for day to day use, and keep the former only for when strictly necessary. Think conditioning is just for girls? Think again. Shampooing can leave hair dry and unruly, so following up with a small amount and leaving to work for a minute or two can transform your mop into a healthy-looking mane.
